On the highways, streets, and back roads of life, we all encounter obstacles. At times they appear to be clustered in such a way that it would be plausible to believe in the existence of a conspiracy. Of course, these obstacles are inevitable. The challenges they present can sometimes seem insurmountable. I talk a lot about the effect of your perspective on your experience. A simple review of your life will reveal the validity of this suggestion. It’s simple, if you think differently, you feel differently, and therefore, you do things differently.
One of the most impenetrable challenges people experience are the situations where the obstacles are self-created. It’s like they split themselves in two and one of themselves stands directly in front of the other, blocking the path completely. A change in perspective isn’t always the magic elixir in this situation. The starting point is located somewhere else. The major challenge becomes convincing yourself that you are in fact, the problem. It’s difficult to get to that point when you are busy trying to find external sources of your difficulties.
So… GET OUT OF YOUR OWN WAY!
A Special Message for Leaders: Stop trying to prove your worth by hogging all of the power. Instead, Feed the People! Trust in their talents and abilities. You hired them for a reason. Rely on them to exceed expectations in their specialty area. If you fail to allow them to shine, you are blocking the collective potential of the group. That is counterproductive for everyone, including you. THAT IS NOT LEADERSHIP!
I’d love to hear how you’ve done this, or even how you plan to. Leave a comment!
